What Kind of Plastic Products Do Customers Actually Need?

2026-08-05

Different types of customers (foreign trade brands, domestic manufacturers, e-commerce merchants and accessory suppliers) have distinct demands. We can break down core requirements into six dimensions: functionality, appearance, cost, craftsmanship, delivery and compliance. These can be directly referenced to identify customers’ real demands when coordinating mold and plastic part production.

I.Function-First Customers

1.Qualified material properties: tensile strength, temperature resistance, impact resistance, weather resistance, wear resistance, damping performance, waterproofing and flame retardancy. Specific material grades will be specified (e.g. PPSU, PA12‑CF30) along with matching mold steel such as S136H.

2.Reliable structure: well-designed snaps, screw threads, overmolding, assembly clearance and draft angles; no loosening or cracking after assembly.

3.Environmental durability: UV resistance, resistance to extreme temperatures and chemicals. Outdoor products must not turn yellow or become brittle in a short period of time.

  • Key Concerns: service life, defect rate and reliability testing; appearance is secondary.

II.Appearance-First Customers

1.Surface texture: high gloss, matte finish, frosted texture, VDI grain, leather grain and etched texture. No sink marks, flow lines, weld lines or flash are allowed.

2.Color management: standard color numbers, chromatic aberration control, pearlescent, translucent and solid colors; secondary processing including painting, silk-screen printing and laser engraving.

3.Strict control over gaps and step differences, smooth hand feel and rounded corner finishing.

  • Key Concerns: visual appeal and tactile experience; zero tolerance for visual defects, with basic performance as the minimum requirement.

III.Cost-Oriented Customers

1.Cost reduction on the premise of meeting minimum functional standards: simplified structures, adoption of general-purpose raw materials (PP, ABS, HDPE) and fewer secondary processing procedures.

2.Optimized wall thickness, simplified molds, faster injection molding cycle time and increased cavity count per mold shot.

3.Acceptance of minor reasonable surface defects, with tight control over unit cost as the priority.

  • Key Concerns: unit price, minimum order quantity, quotation and lead time; no demand for extreme performance.

IV.Foreign Trade Customers

In addition to standard functionality and appearance requirements, extra stringent criteria apply:

1.Compliance: RoHS, REACH, standards for food contact materials and children’s products; provision of material certificates, MSDS and test reports.

2.Dimensional consistency: stable dimensions across mass production batches for easy overseas assembly, with clear tolerance specifications.

3.Packaging: split packaging to prevent scratches, optimized container loading to cut ocean freight costs.

4.Intellectual property protection: zero infringement risks, signed non-disclosure agreements (NDA), prohibition on unauthorized distribution of samples and drawings.

  • Major Pain Points for Foreign Trade Clients:inconsistent batch quality, missing test reports, surface scratches and damaged goods due to poor packaging during ocean transportation.
