Material Properties and Injection Molding Requirements Nylon‑Carbon Fiber Composite

2026-09-05

PA12‑CF30 is a high‑performance conductive and antistatic composite material reinforced with 30% carbon fiber. Featuring high strength and low moisture absorption, it is a widely‑used engineering plastic for precision structural components.

🔬 Core Material Properties

1.Mechanical Properties: Tensile modulus can reach 13.0 GPa. Its tensile strength is 80%‑150% higher than that of standard PA12, and its flexural modulus is three times that of conventional nylon, delivering greatly enhanced rigidity.

2.Conductive Properties: Surface resistivity ranges from 10¹‑10⁵ Ω, providing stable conductive and antistatic performance, which is far superior to conventional carbon‑black‑modified materials.

Density and Water Absorption: Density is only 1.15 g/cc, and water absorption is as low as 1.1%. It maintains excellent dimensional stability under variable‑humidity conditions.

3.Thermal Properties: Melting point is approximately 178 °C. Heat‑deflection temperature surges from 60 °C for neat PA12 to above 210 °C, representing a substantial improvement in heat resistance.

4.Weather and Chemical Resistance: It features UV resistance, weatherability and aging resistance. It exhibits good resistance to greases, oils, fuels, various solvents and salt solutions, and retains low‑temperature toughness down to ‑40 °C.

🛠️ Key Injection Molding Process Requirements

1.Drying Treatment: Prior to processing, the material must be dried for 4‑6 hours in hot air at 85 °C using a hot‑air dehumidifying dryer. Moisture content of raw material shall be strictly controlled below 0.1% to avoid defects such as bubbles and silver streaks.

2.Barrel Temperature: Rear barrel section: 170 °C‑190 °C; middle section: 190 °C‑210 °C; front section: 200 °C‑220 °C; nozzle temperature: 210 °C‑220 °C. Barrel temperature shall not exceed 270 °C to prevent thermal degradation of the material.

3.Mold Temperature: For this carbon‑fiber‑reinforced material, mold temperature should be maintained at 90‑100 °C. Elevated mold temperature ensures uniform crystallization, significantly improves surface gloss and dimensional accuracy of molded parts, and reduces internal stress.

4.Pressure and Speed: Recommended injection pressure: 60‑100 MPa; holding pressure set to 40%‑60% of injection pressure. Medium‑high injection speed is adopted for filling to prevent uneven carbon‑fiber distribution caused by excessive shear heat.

5.Molding Cycle: Holding time: 5‑15 seconds; cooling time: 10‑30 seconds; overall molding cycle: approximately 20‑25 seconds. Eject parts only after sufficient solidification to prevent whitening, cracking and deformation upon ejection.
