Key Points for Mold Maintenance

2024-07-03

As the main production tool in injection molding factories, it determines the shape, specifications, dimensions, and appearance smoothness of products. The material of hardware molds is steel, generally composed of front and rear molds.

The main content of mold safety protection:
Due to the specificity, precision, vulnerability and other characteristics of molds, it is crucial to ensure the safety of molds. Overall, the following aspects can be summarized:
1. Rust prevention: To prevent rusting caused by water leakage/condensation/rain/fingerprints in the injection molding machine mold.
2. Collision prevention: To prevent the phenomenon of mold damage caused by the breakage or failure to retract the ejector pin into place.
3. Deburring: To prevent mold burrs caused by cloth wiping, material flushing, hand wiping, water nozzle pliers collision, or knife collision.
4. Missing parts: To prevent damage to the mold during use due to the lack of pull rods/washers and other parts.
5. Prevent mold damage: To prevent mold damage caused by mold locking due to residual products.
6. Under pressure: To prevent damage to the mold caused by excessive low-pressure protection pressure.

The proportion of mold damage caused by breakage of the ejector pin, failure to retract the ejector pin in place, residual products in the mold, and lack of accessories is relatively high, and due to frequent occurrence, more than 85% of mold damage is caused by this reason. The maintenance cost of molds is generally high, so how to avoid such situations is directly related to the interests of the injection molding industry.
Precautions for mold maintenance:
1) When disassembling the mold, avoid scratches and water splashing, and move smoothly.
2) Spray hot mold and then spray a small amount of release agent
3) A comprehensive inspection and rust prevention treatment should be carried out on the mold: carefully dry the moisture and debris in the mold cavity, core, ejection mechanism, and row position, and spray the mold rust inhibitor and apply butter.
4) During the continuous operation of the mold, it is easy to cause wear and tear of components, deterioration of lubricants, water leakage, and pressure damage to plastic materials during movement, which requires mold maintenance.
Daily maintenance of molds generally includes the following aspects:
a) Regular rust removal (appearance, PL surface, mold cavity, core, etc.)
b) Regularly reapply lubricant (ejection mechanism, row position, etc.)
c) Regularly replace easily worn parts (pull rods, bolts, etc.)
The maintenance of the lower mold of the mold requires professional maintenance personnel to remove the mold and conduct professional testing and protection on the mold cavity, ejector pin, etc.
